I AM SAND
From the urban life of Marrakech to the beduin's caravans in the Sahara Desert, until the cities of Essaouira and Tifnit on the coastline, made of waves, surfers and fishermen. “I am Sand” is a photographic journey in one of the most ancient land of the world, rich of culture and colors; still strongly connected to the old traditions.
Through this journey I realized how a valor like hospitality is a solid base in this culture. Merchants from centuries, the moroccans know how to welcome the foreigners in they land and how to archive a good deal when they seen an opportunity. The quality of their products is sublime and the colors used in their fabrics, carpets or ceramic is a pleasure for the eyes, with customers from all over the globe.
As a photographer is impossible to don’t be amaze from everything around and to the diversity you can face while traveling around this huge land, but in this country, is important to know when is time to point the camera and when is definitely not the right moment. Moroccans, especially in Marrakech where the tourists presence is massive, don’t like to be photographed (not for free at least), so is often hard to “steal the shot” of a particular moment without someone coming to you asking to pay for that photo; the community is very protective, especially around the market area of Place Jemaa el-Fnaa.
Leaving the crazy Marrakech to reach the most remote areas of the country near the desert, is where Morocco reveal its true self.
Small villages surrounded by arid landscapes, where people are curios to see different faces and ready to welcome you in their humble houses made of mud but still somehow cozy, where the guest has the priority over all, no matter what.
Not only a destination but a journey to live on the road, chasing adventures. From the long rads to the arid Zagora, till the doors of the majestic Sahara.
